Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Therapy

Unlocking potential and shaping futures one behavior at a time

What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a proven therapy that focuses on understanding and changing behavior. It uses techniques based on the principles of behavior science to encourage positive behaviors and reduce challenging ones. Through personalized strategies like reinforcement and shaping, ABA helps individuals learn new skills and make meaningful changes in their daily lives.

ABA is most commonly associated with helping individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but it can also be used to support those with a wide range of developmental disabilities, learning challenges, and behavioral issues. Whether it's improving communication, social skills, or daily living tasks, ABA helps people of all ages reach their full potential. The therapy is typically tailored to each person’s needs and can take place in various settings, including at home, school, or in clinical environments. Families and caregivers often work alongside ABA professionals to make sure the changes are long-lasting and effective.

Who Are The Professionals?

Registered Behavioral Technicians (RBTs)

RBTs are certified clinicians who play a hands-on role in providing ABA therapy. They work directly with individuals to help implement the treatment plans created by BCBAs. RBTs focus on teaching new skills, reducing challenging behaviors, and encouraging positive changes in everyday activities.

Their main job is to collect data, track progress, and ensure therapy is going according to plan. RBTs use techniques such as reinforcement, prompting, and modeling to support the individuals they are working with. While they don’t create the treatment plans, they play a crucial role in the execution of those plans and in maintaining consistent and effective therapy.

Board Certified Behavior Analyst

BCBAs are Masters or Doctorate level clinicians with extensive training in ABA, responsible for designing and overseeing individualized treatment plans based on the principles of ABA. The BCBA conducts assessments to understand the person’s needs, behavior patterns, and goals, and then creates a tailored plan that addresses specific challenges and promotes skill development.

BCBAs also supervise and train Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and other staff to ensure the treatment plan is implemented effectively. They monitor progress by reviewing data, adjusting strategies when necessary, and ensuring that the therapy is producing positive results. BCBAs work closely with families, caregivers, and other professionals to make sure everyone is aligned in helping the individual make meaningful progress. In short, a BCBA ensures the therapy is evidence-based, personalized, and continuously improving for the best possible outcomes.
